The theory behind low-carbohydrate diets found with the Atkins diet is that by reducing the intake of these foods, you will enter a phase in your body called ketosis. During ketosis, your body will burn fat for fuel instead of using the foods in your diet, which in turn will stop producing insulin, which in turn will prevent more fat from the saved.



There are four main phases to the Atkins diet: induction, weight loss is in progress, pre-treatment, and maintenance. During the first two weeks, you are in the induction phase. During this time, many people have reported losing 15 pounds or more, simply because carbohydrate intake is cut down to 20 grams per day. Carbohydrates you can have only a low-carbohydrate vegetables, and even then they are very limited. The second phase, known as the weight is in progress, will let you have 25 grams per day. You then will move to pre-treatment, where you can try other foods to see what you can add carbs in your diet. Once you reach your body weight loss goals, you can eat all the carbs is good, but the premise behind the diet plan is that you will not want to eat this food. Choosing healthy carbs will become a way of life.
